March 14

It was going to be another exciting race day at Orange Speedway. It started by Junior Johnson grabbing the pole for the event. Junior would be the dominant force most of the race. On lap 44, HSG member, Gene Hobby, took a frightning tumble down the frontstretch flipping five times. Gene was not hurt in the incident. Junior has set sail in the event until a flat tire with 29 laps to go spoiled his day. Ned Jarrett assumed command and led the final 29 laps to secure the victory.

October 24th

The Grand national division would visit for the final time in 1965. Dick Hutcherson gathered the pole and would have to work hard all day after cutting a tire in the early going. Meanwhile David Pearson and Junior Johnson were battling out for the lead. Junior finally started pulling away until his A-frame broke on lap 59. Dick Hutcherson had found his way back to the front and led the final 52 laps to score the win.
