September 15- Final Race at Orange Speedway
This historic day would mark the final Grand National Race at Orange Speedway. It would also mark the final GN race for legendary Curtis Turner who would wind up 13th in the final order. Richard Petty would take the pole for the Hillsborough 150. David Pearson started outside pole and the two would battle it out for the first three quarters of the race. But on lap 120, Pearsons’ engine let go and Richard would go on to score the easy win, the final race at Orange Speedway. Richard would win the race by 7 laps and took home $1,600 in prize money. James Hylton came in second with Neil Castles, John Sears, and Worth McMillion rounding out the top five.
