March 25th

The new Convertible division would visit. Curtis Turner would start from the point and would battle all day with Gwyn Staley and Joe Weatherly. On the 42nd lap, Larry Odo would flip his Chevrolet but would be unhurt. On the 63rd lap, Curtis Turner would overtake Gwyn Staley and would win the 100 lapper and take home $850.

May 13th

It was an exciting Mother’s Day at Orange Speedway. After Buck Baker grabbed the pole. He and Speedy Thompson competed for the win, in one of the most exciting races in the history of Orange Speedway. They both came down to the checkers at a near dead heat. Buck Baker nosed out the win by two feet in the closest win at Orange Speedway.

September 30th

It was a wild and wooly affair. Speedy Thompson earned the pole. He, Buck Baker and Fireball Roberts would battle all 110 laps. The race had a few wild moments. Billy Myers early in the race would run over a loose wheel and then slammed head on into the wall. Remarkably he was able to continue but then had to retire because of his car catching on fire while on the track. Brownie King then flipped three times in the middle of the race. After all the mayhem, Fireball Roberts finally assumed command and led the final 25 laps.

October 14th

The Convertible division would have their season finale. Curtis Turner would be in command all day until a late charge from Joe Weatherly. He held off the challenge and won by two car lengths. Bob Welborn locked up the convertible championship finishing 5th.
