Richard Petty
Richard was born on July 2, 1937 in Randleman, NC. Richard is commonly known as the “King” of Stock Car racing. Richard started his Grand National Career in 1958 at the Jim Mideon 500 at Canadian Exposition Stadium. He collected his first Grand National win at the Southern States Fairgrounds in 1960. He would go on to be a seven time Grand National Champion in 1964, 1967, 1971,1972,1974,1975 and 1979. He is a seven time Daytona 500 winner also. At Occoneechee/Orange Speedway he would go on to win three times at the .9 mile dirt oval. Richard finished his career with 200 total wins. Tops among all drivers. He also finished with 126 total pole positions. Again tops among all drivers. Richard would score his final win in 1984 at the Firecracker 400 in Daytona Beach, FL. In 1992, Richard hung up his helmet at the 1992 Hooters 500 in Hampton, GA ending the career of Nascar’s most famed driver. |
