Howell Brown and a Real Christmas Story

Early last week Sue Brown and her 10 year old son, Howell, were having some issues with the transmission on their vehicle. It was recommended that they take it to Jakes Transmission in Durham which is co-owned by HSG President Frank Craig. Howell, who is a racing and NASCAR fan, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is currently undergoing treatment for it. It didn't take long for Howell and Frank to get into some serious racing talk and at the end of the day arrangements had been made for Howell to come to Occoneechee Speedway and to be taken for a ride in a real race car. Thanks to HSG member Gerald Talbert who volunteered the use of his race car, the plan was set.
On Saturday December 21st around 12:30 Howell and his mother Sue arrived at the track. Several HSG members were there and we got to meet Howell and Sue for the first time. It was a really exciting time, especially for Howell who made several laps around the track and then was given a bag of racing goodies. It was a Christmas event that I don't think Howell will ever forget - I know we won't. A lot of the story can be seen in the photos below.
By the way Howell has been invited to our event in September next year so everyone can meet him. He is a wonderful young man.
